Tourism & Resort Management

Put tourism and resort management at the heart of your Business Administration degree. And Durango becomes the best place to study. Tourism makes up 30 percent of our local economy.

The Durango - Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Durango Mountain Resort, Mesa Verde National Park, among other attractions, and even those who come here to hike and camp create our tourism industry. By focusing on tourism and resort management, you can become involved in these businesses and the numerous events that draw people to Southwest Colorado.

Professors use guest speakers, professional experience and a semester-long project to teach tourism and resort management. In the final project, teams of four or five students select a region of the world and plan a week-to-10 day group tour of that area. Students also plan a banquet for 60 to 80 people featuring cuisine of their chosen region.

This industry will continue to grow and serve national and international markets. As it does, it will need future leaders and managers with better education and broader perspectives.

Fort Lewis is an alternative to the big university, offering attentive hands-on teaching. Because we focus purely on undergraduate business majors, you'll interact with faculty, and not graduate students.
