Physics

Take the physics route to an Engineering Degree. Our Engineering Physics program provides quality scientific and technical training. You can earn a bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering Physics or Physical Science for Secondary Teaching.

Students work on research projects with the college's chapter of Engineers Without Borders. They're researching technologies for use in the developing world such as a robust, low-power, low-cost lamp that runs off the waste heat from a wood burning stove. Other students are searching for an inexpensive, small filter that can be used in a home to filter water.

Closer to home, students are researching ways to generate power by using biogas production from the waste manure of a herd of cattle. They want to generate power to heat the farm.

The popularity of whitewater kayaking in the area has also caught the attention of our students. They are developing a scale model of a river to test the performance of various manmade features used to increase the white water on the river.

In a medical physics project, students are calibrating a new radiation device and developing operational parameters for a local oncology center. Medical physics is a branch of bioengineering that addresses the design and calibration of these devices.

In July 2005, the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (Accreditation Board For Engineering and Technology) approved our Engineering Physics program for engineering accreditation. This seal of approval assures students, parents and employers that our degreed program meets the accepted national standards for quality engineering education. This is the only accredited engineering program in western Colorado and the Four Corners region.
