Pre-Health

Pre-Med is at the heart of our Health Careers Program. At Fort Lewis College, you'll have not one but two academic advisors who guide you through courses and prepare you for graduate study or medical school.

Many pre-med students major in biology, chemistry or biochemistry. But you can major in any area you choose. In the sciences, you'll use instruments that undergraduates at large universities can't access. You'll also work closely with doctorate faculty in small classes another feature not found at universities.

Research, hands-on lab work and internships are a big part of our program. You'll present and write about your research results. These are skills graduate schools are searching for in applicants.

Our faculty advisors work closely with pre-health students to ready them for graduate admissions exams and interviews. Our local medical community is available for internships and "shadowing" experiences so that students can explore their professional interests.

Not only will we prepare you to apply for medical school, we'll also prepare you to apply to graduate programs for other health-related careers such as physician assistance, nursing, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, dentistry and pharmacy.

We've connected with professional schools in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. Many of our students have chosen to attend schools in the Four Corners states; but we also have networks with graduate schools elsewhere.
