Religious Studies

Religion remains one of the most powerful influences shaping individual and collective worldviews and behavior.

Fort Lewis College offers a minor in Religious Studies, using two or more academic areas to explore religious traditions. You'll learn how those traditions have shaped history.

Our program is unique in that we draw upon top quality programs. In studying for this minor, you'll learn from Southwest Studies, History and Literature courses that focus on religious areas.

Students examine how religious traditions have interacted with culture to shape social, economic, political, class, ethnic, racial and gender concerns. Religious meanings are central to people's culture. Religious Studies courses offer students an opportunity for self-awareness in living in a global, multicultural world.

This minor prepares you for leadership in professional religious positions. Graduates have applied their degrees in faith-based service in churches, synagogues or mosques, and they have been involved with civic activities and social justice initiatives.

Graduates have also continued with advanced studies at seminaries and graduate schools and careers in teaching, counseling, business, law, writing and the arts.

Fort Lewis is also an alternative to a large university. Classes are small. Faculty members are personable, listening to your ideas about religion's role in our culture.
