Secondary Science

At Fort Lewis, you pick your science. You can major in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Geoscience.

Take advantage of Fort Lewis' small classes and professors who help you one-on-one. There are no graduate assistants teaching undergraduates. And in our labs, you can use instruments that larger universities reserve for graduate students only.

Our Secondary Science licensure program combines the strength of our science programs with the strength of our Teacher Education Department. We'll lead you through the process to become licensed to teach science to Middle and High School students.

You'll participate in field studies and observe under the direction of a selected teacher. But in Durango, you can also tutor, mentor and even be a science fair judge for local educational organizations such as Durango Nature Studies, Study Buddies and Durango Discovery Museum.

You'll graduate with a bachelor of science in the science field of your choice. You'll also meet all the professional development requirements necessary to teach. You could go onto graduate school with your science degree before beginning your teaching career.
