Campus TourTeacher Licensure Program
The school-aged population is growing faster in the United States than in other industrialized nations. Also on the rise are the shares of minority children and children living in poverty. *
This is propelling the growing demand for quality teachers with experience in working with minority and low-income students. At Fort Lewis, you can earn your Colorado teacher’s license and gain the experience you need to teach in today’s classroom. Here’s how it works:
- Choose a major and meet the academic requirements for the major.
- Complete the teaching licensure requirements, including admission into the Fort Lewis Teacher Education program.
If you already have your degree, you can enter Fort Lewis College as an unclassified major. Then you can complete the requirements in your content area and the requirements for the teaching license.
The following are licensure areas offered at Fort Lewis with their corresponding majors.
- Elementary Education (Interdisciplinary Studies Major)
- Early Childhood Education (Interdisciplinary Studies Major)
- Secondary (7-12) English (English Education)
- Secondary (7-12) Mathematics (Mathematics)
- Secondary (7-12) Science (Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, or Physics)
- Secondary (7-12) Social Studies (History or Humanities with a history specialty emphasis)
- Secondary (7-12) Spanish (Spanish)
- K-12 Art (Art)
- K-12 Music (Music)
- K-12 Physical Education (Exercise Science)

When it comes to early childhood education, Fort Lewis offers its own learning lab on campus. The Campbell Child and Family Center is a child development center for toddlers and preschoolers.
