Human Heritage

At the heart of a Liberal Arts education

Human Heritage will help you understand how our cultural traditions influence our ways of looking at the world. Studying cultures other than your own will expand and challenge your frame of reference.

  • This two-term General Education class will address the goals of a
    liberal arts education:

  • Teaches critical thinking, reading and writing.
  • Examines assumptions and challenges stereotypes
  • Encourages community building and peer interactions
  • Supports Global Citizenship and a respect for diversity

This course explores three cultures: Native American, Western and Chinese. The themes include:

  • How do cultures deal with change?
  • What is the relationship between individuals and society?
  • How do cultures respond to others who are different from them?
  • What do different societies value as ways of knowing the world (for example: traditions, history, scientific evidence, mystical revelation)?

This course is transferable to other colleges and universities in Colorado. It’s also an alternative to for the Ethnic Studies Option in Sociology/Human Services.
