The Environmental Center (EC) at Fort Lewis College is a resource for social and ecological awareness, dialogue and activism in the college, community and surrounding region.
A student-based organization, the EC provides information on environmental and social justice issues through its own radio show, articles for the local paper and video productions. It also has a library with over 2,000 books, videos and magazines.
The EC hosts programs for the campus and community, including prominent guest speakers, workshops, trainings and conferences. It also offers a recycling and composting program, an organic demonstration garden and a greenhouse. It advises the college on how to make new buildings as sustainable as possible. And it promotes fair trade products, local and organic food and habitat conservation.
The EC also works with faculty to develop community-based learning opportunities in the region, tapping into local environmental and social issues. Fort Lewis College also offers Living and Learning Communities around environmental issues.
Contact the EC to learn more about them, and the many opportunities for students to work and volunteer at the center.
