Internships are incredible opportunties for students to gain insight into their future career. They are resume builders. Almost every major degree program offers internship opportunites, giving you hands-on experience in your career and profession.
Because they are so important, Fort Lewis College offers assistance in helping students qualify, search and apply for internships.
The School of Business Administration offers dozens of internships for students focusing on different options. A few examples include Angel Fire Resort. Keystone Resort and Mt. Princeton Hot Springs for those focusing on Tourism; and Telluride Ski and Golf and Silverton Chamber for those focusing on Marketing; and Wells Fargo and Region 9 Economic Development office for those focusing on Finance or Economics.
Exercise Science also offers several internships in Sports Administration as part of its undergraduate curriculum. The purpose of the program is to provide qualified Exercise Science majors with a Sport Administration option, an opportunity for professional training and experience that is not obtainable in a classroom setting.
The Career Services Office offers internships through Cooperative Education. Students have been placed locally and nationally. There are also opportunities for International experiences.
The results of a Michigan State University employer survey showed that 85 percent of employers seek candidates with at least one internship experience.
According to the 2005 Experiential Education Survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, 45 percent of employers said "they offer higher salaries to incoming hires with intern/co-op experience than they offer those without such experience."
Internships are a great way to build your resume. Patrick Quinn recently completed his internship at Walt Disney World in Florida. He plans to graduate with a Business Administration degree in April 2008.
