Dr. McBrayer has been selected as Fort Lewis first Faculty in Residence. He, his wife and two children will llive in an apartment in Animas Hall, bringing the student-teacher relationship outside the classroom and into the living environment.

Special Living Options

Fort Lewis College offers six Living Learning Communities (LLC) -- an exciting option for residential students.

By joining an LLC, you live with other students with common interests and who are similarly invested in having fun and learning together. Check out the LLCs here:

Adventure House
Whether you are a life-long outdoor enthusiast or have never ventured off pavement, the Adventure House affords you the opportunity to blend academics, community living and backcountry, human-powered adventure.

Residents are dedicated to learning about and enjoying wilderness related activities.Coordinated through Outdoor Pursuits, staff and faculty will partner with residents to plan a variety of workshops, clinics and trips around favorite activities including rafting, biking, backpacking, kayaking, snowshoeing, rock and ice climbing, skiing/riding, wilderness safety and ethics, equipment repair and so much more!

Every year residents find new ways to be involved with enjoying and respecting the backcountry.

Creative Intersections House

Creative Intersections
is a Living and Learning Community for students interested in theatre, art, and film.

Community members will attend performances, gallery openings, films and workshops to learn skills such as video production.

Members will also have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of collaborative projects with Theatre, Art and English faculty.

If you’re interested in living in a vibrant, exciting creative environment, Creative Intersections might be just the Living and Learning Community for you.

Enrollment in GS 100, Freshman Seminar is required. One credit.

Global Village
Bienvenue! Bonjour! Guten Tag! Welcome! Yá’át’ééh! Youkoso!

Global Village is a fun and unique learning community open to all students interested in not just understanding the larger world, but interacting with it in professional and personal means.

This international body of students will share customs and cultures through food, films and fashion; and work together in promoting education for global citizenship ideals.

Students also help one another prepare for future foreign travel through study abroad, foreign exchange or innovative month-long programs.

Be a part of an international team of students who like to travel the world, whether through actual or academic experiences, and wish to share that knowledge with one another in the Global Village and to the broader academic community.

Enrollment in GS 100, Freshman Seminar is required. One credit.

Hungry Mind House
Are you coming to Fort Lewis College to take advantage of the interdisciplinary liberal arts perspective offered through the curriculum?

Does attending lectures, trips, films, faculty dinners, concerts and plays on a variety of topics excite you?

The Hungry Mind House is tailored to academically motivated students interested in the rich tradition of a residential liberal arts college experience and the Honors Program.

The community members will be mentored by faculty in the Honors Council as well as the College’s Professional Associates Group through the intellectual, cultural and social activities sponsored throughout the year.

Decisions on admittance to the house are made by the Honors Council.

Enrollment in GS 100, Freshman Seminar is required. One credit.

ISIS House (In Self In Sync)
The residents of ISIS (In Self In Sync) House explore all aspects of health and wellness, as the Egyptian Goddess ISIS was known as the source of all life.

Residents will share strategies and learn techniques that promote balance across nutrition, exercise, stress management, spiritual health, sleep patterns and relationships.

This supportive environment will help each resident move beyond simple fitness tips to true health. Students will find empowerment as they dictate what living healthfully means for each of them.

This dynamic community is supported by faculty in Exercise Science and outside consultants who will engage residents throughout the year.

Enrollment in GS 100, Freshman Seminar is required. One credit.

Health and Wellness

LIFE House
If you are interested in cultural diversity, community service, and the environment, the LIFE House (Learning to Invest in the Future of the Earth) is for you!

Our mission is to develop interest in the future of our world and create a commitment to positive action. Residents will work together to make a difference on campus and in the community on social, cultural, and environmental issues. See residents here.

Staff and faculty from several departments, including the FLC Environmental Center, will partner with the residents of the LIFE House to create a living experience that values cultural heritage, service and awareness of our ties to the earth.

Activities will include trips, outdoor education, guest speakers, films and service projects centered on the mission.

LLCs combine a common interest or theme with the social aspects of a campus housing community. The result is an experience that will last a lifetime.
