Outdoor Pursuits

Many students at Fort Lewis College want to experience the outdoors. Our distinctive location on the edge of both the mountains and the desert provides us with recreational opportunities that cannot be found anywhere else in the United States.

Outdoor Pursuits organizes group activities designed to introduce you to the wonders of the Four Corners region. Their calendar is filled with extensive trips throughout the area.

Two professional staff members will take you river rafting, backpacking, ski touring, rock climbing and kayaking, to name a few of the activities. They also offer avalanche safety training and ice climbing clinics.

For a one-time annual user fee, you can check out a wide variety of outdoor and backcountry equipment at no charge. Outdoor Pursuits also provides maps, expert advice, reading material, and other resources to plan individual adventures.

Additionally, Outdoor Pursuits oversees the management and operation of the indoor climbing wall at the Student Life Center. And it houses bicycle repair and ski/board tuning benches. You can learn to tune or repair your equipment.

If you have questions concerning places to go or things to do, the Outdoor Pursuits staff can help. The professional staff has climbed, skied, boated, mountain biked, and explored the Four Corners region for years. They are willing to share their experiences to help guide you in planning your own adventures.
